麦霸??
Wheat master? Damn, I wish I knew of a good online slang dictionary.

And they have gigolo's. We took my gay friend from Canada to a KTV once, and when he requested a man, they rounded up like 10 in 10minutes. I'm not sure if they were used to playing that role, but they seemed very willing.

good topic. I have only gone to KTV's twice, once in Beijing and once in Qingdao. Each time I was with a mixed group. So I didn't know that special friends were available -- they weren't offered. But, I imagine that's part of the service at all of them.

I've noticed this duality in many places. "barber shops", "massage places", and bars of course.

Prostitution is everywhere but not always obvious. A few examples:

I live near the Holiday Inn Lido in Beijing. It's an area of a lot of ex-pats. Especially Germans. You walk down a street near Lido and you'll see lots of haircut shops, some real, some with girls just sitting around with no obvious haircutting equipment. If you are a male walking alone they will open the door and offer you a "massage". When I'm with my gf they don't say anything to us. But alone, I get a lot of offers.

My gf and I sometimes go and get a foot massage. We went to one place and they wouldn't let is be in the same room and the rooms only had big, double beds. I told my gf that this is the wrong kind of massage place and we went to a different place. We went to our normal foot massage place where a bunch of friends can be in the same room and get a foot massage or a chaste (fully clothed) body massage.

At Nanjie, a popular ex-pat bar in Sanlitun, I was with some male friends and a couple of young Chinese girls started talking to us. It seemed very innocent and they seemed like young, sweet student types. Anyway, I talked to them for a bit to be polite but I had to leave because I was meeting my gf later. A few days later I talked to my male friend and he said the 2 girls had gone back to his apartment afterwards and he couldn't believe his luck UNTIL they demanded 1000 kuai each once they arrived at his place. He said "no way" and sent them away. He wouldn't even give them taxi fare. I agree with him. They were sneaky to pretend they weren't prostitutes. But apparently there's a lot of that goes on. Frankly, most decent western guys who live in Beijing don't need to pay for sex.

All the Ktv's in Lanzhou have some level of 'chicken girl'.
My wife will usually find a couple of 'escorts' to pour the drinks, laugh at our jokes and play drinking games with us while the wife and pals sing.

interesting about the KTV places. I really had no idea what was on offer there. And what levels of service. None of the people I know frequent them, so I don't hear much. Like I said, when I went, I took my own entourage, so to speak.

KTV's are even classified by some of my male Chinese friends as "take home" or "table only" places.

I am almost afraid to ask, but what is a "duck boy"? Is it like a cabana boy in the Phillipines?
